Shannon was introduced to art as a child through the drawings of her father and grandmother. She was also influenced by her mother’s strong sense of design exhibited in a confident and elegant manner through her fashion and home décor choices. Shannon later went on to study drawing, painting, sculpture, and theatre at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada where she received her BA in Fine Arts and a BA in Education. In addition to teaching art and theatre, she has exhibited her paintings in Western Canada. Over the years, she has drawn inspiration from the impressionists: Monet, Van Gogh, Renoir, and John Singer Sargent. Canadian artists that have influenced her work include the Group of Seven and Emily Carr. Shannon is especially grateful for several years of instruction and guidance from Internationally recognized artist, Ron Hedrick, who reintroduced her to the medium of Oil painting after her 15-year career as a Photographic Retouch Artist. Shannon’s goal is to transport the viewer into the scene, to enjoy the interplay of light, colour, and texture, as it relates to the natural environment. In doing so, she reminds us all of our strong emotional connections to the people and places we hold dear, and the need to remember and preserve these for future generations.
Donating a painting for auction to the Children’s Heart Network holds special significance to Shannon since her family has unfortunately faced similar challenges of heart related illnesses. She is grateful to organizations that provide funding and education to improve the heart health of children and families.
