Description

Susan Point, O.C., RCA, D.Litt. hon, DFA. hon, (1952–) is a descendant of the Musqueam. Susan’s distinct style has inspired a movement in Coast Salish art. She draws creativity from her ancestors’ stories and forged the use of non-traditional materials and techniques, therefore inspiring generations of artists. Susan is most proud to be an Officer of the Order of Canada and has been presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her contributions to Canada. In 2018 Susan received the Audain Prize for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts. She has been awarded an Indspire Achievement Award, a YWCA Woman of Distinction Award, a B.C. Creative Achievement Award and Lifetime Achievement Award, appointed lifetime member to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, listed as one of British Columbia’s 100 most influential women and was one of Vancouver’s 2012 Remarkable Women. Susan has Honorary Doctorates from The University of Victoria, Simon Fraser University, The University of B.C., Emily Carr University of Art and Design and Capilano University. In 2016, Susan became a member of the City of Vancouver’s Civic Merit Award. Susan is a Metchosin International School of the Arts Ambassador and in 2020 was awarded Chevalier in the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Order of France, French Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
