SEND A KID OR FAMILY TO CAMP!
Every year the Children’s Heart Network organizes a few camps: one for children ages 8-12, one for teens ages 13-18, and two family camps in the fall. We think these camps are one of the most important things we do.
Many of our heart-warriors face daily challenges; exercise limitations, the need for multiple medications or treatments, and fewer opportunities to socialize with their peers. The heart camps provide opportunities for campers to participate in a wide range of physical and social activities to connect with other kids who have faced similar medical challenges.
Unfortunately we often see that children with heart conditions struggle with depression or develop anxiety, and we have learned that our camps and monthly “Hearts of Gold” youth meetings build confidence, friendships and provide experiences that help them move forward in life.
The family camp helps our members connect, find support and quite often also get medical advice from each other by sharing experiences. Every year we hear about how incredibly empowering these camps and get-togethers are for all participants.
Our children and teen camps are held at Zajac Ranch and cost between $500 to $700 per camper. Zajac focuses on kids with serious and chronic illnesses, and there is 24 hour on-site medical supervision. Parents can send their kids to camp knowing all their child’s medical needs are looked after. Our family camps are hosted at Camp Stillwood near Cultus Lake and Camp Thunderbird in Sooke, B.C.
This year we hope to arrange camps in the fall, depending on the Covid-19 pandemic. The “Hearts of Gold” group is having an online weekend camp in May. Care packages are being mailed out and activities will be held over two evenings.
With the deep loss of revenue due to the cancelled wine gala we are hoping you will consider donating to keep our camps pumping with joy and fun for our heart-warriors and their families.
